DIY: How to Crochet Flower Coasters

Crochet Flower Tutorial. Want to learn how to make easy crochet flower coasters? Check out this video tutorial on YouTube! FREE Pattern included. DIY projects are easy and fun. This is an easy project, great for beginners to advanced crocheters, and great for Mother’s Day or just because!

Spring has sprung! (finally!!!) What a perfect time to start thinking about some Mother’s Day gifts, Spring Parties, birthdays, that special friend or aunt.  I usually make these in sets of 3 to give as gifts. You can add a cute mug or some candles to the gift as well! This crochet flower coaster tutorial is super cute!!

These are typically made with 100% cotton yarn (I use “I Love This Cotton” yarn that I get at Hobby Lobby or Michaels.), it’s super soft AND absorbent (which you will need if you use these as coasters). But, for demonstration purposes, I used hot pink chunky yarn in the video tutorial so you can see the stitches easier.

Materials:

  • crochet hook size H –  Available here: Crochet Hook Sets
  • 1 skein of “I Love this Cotton” yarn (any color!) – Available here: Yarn Choices
  • yarn needle
  • scissors

Crochet Abbreviations:

  • dc= double crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • ch = chain
  • V-S = V-stitch
  • st = stitch

Directions:

Begin with a chain 4, then slip-stitch (sl-st) close to first chain. (Create small circle)

Round 1: CH2, 10 DC in ring, sl-st to join (10 stitches)

Round 2: CH3, DC in first ST, V-stitch in each ST around (DC, CH 1, DC all in the same ST), 20 stitches, sl-st to join

Round 3: CH2, DC in first st (CH 1 from V-st below), CH 1, *2 DC in CH 1 space from Round 2, CH 1*, repeat from * around, sl-st to join

Round 4: CH3, 4 DC in first CH 1 space from Round 3, sl-st into space between 2 DC from from Round 3, *5 DC in next CH 1 space, sl-st into space between 2 DC*, repeat from * around ((for the very last sl-st, sl-st to the last DC instead of in between the last 2 DC)), finish off, weave ends.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Warning…making these little flower crochet coasters can be addicting….

Happy Crocheting!!!
